College: Making It Happen Educational Forum to take Place this Weekend

California State University, Bakersfield will hold its annual “College: Making It Happen” educational forum on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at CSUB’s Icardo Center (Roadrunner Drive entrance on Camino Media). Registration will be from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. The program will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some 3,000 attendees are expected, including students in grades 6 to 12, parents, community leaders, and K-12 educators. The best time for media coverage will be between 8 a.m. and noon.

This program is an outreach designed to communicate the importance of early academic and financial aid planning. The program also aims to inform middle and high school students and their parents about the importance of continuing their education beyond high school and the educational choices available after high school graduation.

Approximately 60 vendors will be onsite and 54 classroom sessions will be offered to all participants. Topics for the student and parent sessions include graduation requirements, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, life skills, careers, and a parent-to-parent panel. Some parent sessions will be offered in both English and Spanish.

This event is presented by the Southern San Joaquin Valley Cal-SOAP Consortium; California Student Aid Commission; CSU Chancellor’s Office; Bakersfield City School District; Kern High School District; University of Laverne; Taft College, Educational Talent Search; Parent Institute for Quality Education; and Migrant Region V.
