CSUB to Hold Drive For E-Waste

On Saturday, February 20, California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) board will be partnering with Alianza Recycling to host an E-Waste Day. As part of Recyclemania, a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs, CSUB will promote waste reduction on their campus communities, in their effort to keep the grounds beautiful.

Students, staff, faculty, alumni and the community will be able to drop off their old digital and electronic items that no longer work at 9001 Stockdale Hwy. entering from Camino Media at SW Rd. (where the Christmas tree drop-off was held) from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on February 20. There are a variety of items that can be dropped off, including: computers, cell phones, printers, flat screens, monitors, DVDs, game consoles and household appliances. Items that will not be accepted, include: light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and alkaline batteries. In 2005, Alianza Recycling was started because they found that local landfills were being consumed with TVs and other electronic waste containing lead, which was found in drinking water.

“Alianza Recycling is very proud to be teaming up with CSUB in their RecycleMania competition! Our recycling event will help educate all generations regarding proper electronic waste recycling and eliminate many toxins i.e., lead and mercury, from reaching the landfills and ultimately our drinking water. The electronic waste collected at this event will be recycled in Bakersfield, which will add jobs for our great community,” said Neil Agness, Business Development Manager of Alianza Recycling.
