CSUB Announces Brock Community Service Award recipient
July 07, 2014
The local community based John Brock Committee, in conjunction with the Executive Advisory Council of the School of Business and Public Administration at CSU Bakersfield, proudly announces Judith Tuttle McCarthy as this year's recipient of the prestigious John Brock Community Service Award. McCarthy will be honored during a recognition dinner on September 4, 2014 at 7pm at Seven Oaks Country Club.
McCarthy is the founding chair of the Women's and Girls' Fund of the Kern Community Foundation. She served as the chair of the fund from 2004 to 2008, formed part of its Vision Committee from 2004 to 2015, and in 2011, developed and managed the Million Dollar Endowment Campaign, which reached its goal one year ahead of schedule. She has also served as Interim CEO, Board Chair, and Board member of the foundation. Throughout the years, McCarthy has held numerous leadership roles in many community organizations including Chair of the Garces Memorial High School Gala, and Board Member of the Junior League of Bakersfield and the Lori Brock Children's Museum. She also volunteers her time for causes such as the Boy Scouts of America and parent clubs at Kern County schools. In addition, McCarthy has received various awards and recognitions, including the 2012 “Women Inspiring Girls” award of the Girls Scouts Central California South Chapter, and “Woman of the Year” for the 32nd Assembly District in 2010 under Assembly member Jean Fuller.
“I am deeply touched to receive the John Brock Community Service Award,” said McCarthy. “I love this community and the people here who contribute to our quality of life. Past recipients of the John Brock Award include some of my local heroes. To be in their midst is a privilege any day.”
The recipient was selected by the John Brock Committee comprised of members of the Executive Advisory Council of CSUB's School of Business and Public Administration. The group includes approximately 25 business and community leaders who provide advice and support to the school.
“For years, Judith McCarthy has proven to be an exceptional member of the Bakersfield community,” said John Emery, Dean of CSUB's School of Business and Public Administration. “Her continued participation in organizations that are so important to our community, and her prestigious recognitions, made her the ideal candidate for this year's John Brock Community Service Award.”
Proceeds from the recognition dinner will help fund the CSUB John Brock Endowment, which provides scholarships for students in CSUB's School of Business and Public Administration. Scholarships will be presented at the event to this year's recipients. Tickets for the event are $150 per person. Corporate table sponsorships are also available.
