May 16, 2014
The office of University Advancement at California State University, Bakersfield is proud to announce that the department of Public Affairs and Communications has been honored with a 2014 Gold Hermes Creative Award from the international Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP). The project awarded was “CSUB Celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Grapes of Wrath” in the category Video/Film for Educational Institution, which was created for promotional use during the yearlong university celebration of John Steinbeck's novel. This production was also previously honored with a gold 2014 AVA Digital Award, as well as a 2013 Gold MarCom Award.
AMCP administers and judges several international competitions for marketing and communication professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs and print, visual and audio materials. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers. All three competitions received thousands of entries from around the world. Many honorees are in the United States, and several in other countries including Canada, Germany, Egypt, and Australia. The awards statuettes grace the trophy cases of some of the top business and communication firms in the world. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individuals to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.
"These esteemed awards are public acknowledgement that the work that comes out of Public Affairs and Communications at CSUB is world-class,” said Colleen Dillaway, CSUB Director of Public Affairs and Communications. “CSUB represents excellence in everything we do, and we are very pleased to have had our work selected and honored by no fewer than three separate awards."
The short film was produced by Irma Cervantes, CSUB Public Affairs Coordinator, who has been with CSUB since February 2013. In addition to the video, Cervantes also brought home a 2013 Gold MarCom Award for “Hope lives when people remember” in the category of Writing/News Article, which was published in the Spring/Summer 2013 edition of Your CSUB magazine. Cervantes is a two-time CSUB alumna with a Bachelor's degree in Communications and a Master's degree in Public Administration.
