CSUB Jazz presents emerging jazz artist Jacám Manricks
December 19, 2013
The CSUB Jazz Program will host saxophonist and composer Jacám Manricks on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 8pm in the CSUB Doré Theatre. This concert is the first in the inaugural Emerging Jazz Artist Concert Series. Manricks is touring to support his most recent release - “Cloud Nine” - and is just the type of artist CSUB hopes to support with this series.
Manricks began studying piano at age five and the alto saxophone at nine years old. His formal musical training continued in New York in 2001, culminating with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in jazz composition/performance/ pedagogy from the Manhattan School of Music in 2007. As a saxophonist and woodwind player, Manricks has performed and/or recorded with some of the most prestigious international artists of our time. He is a popular figure amongst the New York contemporary jazz scene and a familiar face in venues such as the Jazz Gallery, Cornelia Street Café, Smalls, the Jazz Standard, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Jim Scully, Interim Director of Jazz Studies, is excited to host Manricks, “Jacam reached out last year as he was planning a west-coast tour and after listening to his CD’s I was just floored by his expressive playing. And as a composer, he is very adventurous and inventive both harmonically and rhythmically. This is going to be a fun show!”
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors (60+) and $5 for all students with ID. Tickets can be purchased at BROWNPAPERTICKETS.COM (search for Jacam Manricks) or at the door on the night of the event. For more information call 661.654.2511 or email email@example.com.
