CSUB Jazz Ensemble makes 2013-14 debut
November 12, 2013
The Music Department at California State University, Bakersfield presents the CSUB Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jim Scully, Interim Director of Jazz Studies. This concert takes place on Friday, November 22 at 8 PM in the CSUB Doré Theatre. The dynamic group will present music by Sammy Nestico, Horace Silver (arranged by Alf Clausen), Les Hooper, Radiohead (arranged by James Miley), Michael League, and others.
The set list includes well-known jazz classics and modern-rock masterpieces. The diversity and inclusive nature of contemporary jazz allows for many different musical experiences and stylistic investigations. This concert aims to explore many of those possibilities. Many student performers will be featured throughout the concert, including trumpeter Brent Williams, saxophonists John Luevano and James Russell, pianist Jay Smith, drummer Cameron Poehner, and double-bassist Fernando Montoya.
Also making an appearance will be the CSUB Jazz Collective performing a work by Snarky Puppy and original pieces by student composers, pianist Tony Rinaldi and trumpeter Alejandro Arvizu.
Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors (60+) and FREE for ANY STUDENT with a student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Doré Theatre box office starting at 7:30 PM on the night of the event.
