CSUB's Public Affairs Coordinator Inducted Into Prestigious Honor Society
June 11, 2013The CSU Bakersfield Office of Public Affairs and Communications is proud to announce the induction of Irma Cervantes, Public Affairs Coordinator, into Pi Alpha Alpha, The National Honorary Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
Founded under The National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), Pi Alpha Alpha membership is limited to persons who have demonstrated the highest performance levels in educational programs that prepare them for public service careers or those whose careers have best advanced the ideals of integrity, professionalism, and creative performance in public service.
Though only having been with CSUB for a few months, Irma has already made her mark on the campus and local communities through her commitment to and excellence in public affairs. Her experiences as an on-air anchor for Univision thoroughly prepared her for the day-to-day challenges that she faces working in the communications industry.
“We are incredibly proud of Irma and this accomplishment,” says Colleen Dillaway, Director of Public Affairs at CSUB. “Her vibrant personality and commitment to sharing the compelling stories that are always happening on campus are two of the things that set her apart and what makes her such a great addition to this University.”
2013 has been proven to be a year of milestones for Irma. In addition to her induction into Pi Alpha Alpha, she has won her second Edward R. Murrow Award and has been nominated for four Northern California EMMY awards for the work she completed while at Univision. On top of all of that, she will be receiving her Masters in Public Administration from CSUB this evening at the master's hooding ceremony in the Icardo Center.
