CSUB announces the new Director of Public Affairs and Communications
October 30, 2012
Colleen Dillaway has been named Director of Public Affairs and Communications for CSU Bakersfield. She will begin her appointment on October 31, 2012.
As the Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Dillaway will promote the mission of CSU Bakersfield through the strategic placement of news and information about the university in the media and among the many university constituent groups. Reporting to David Melendez, Vice President for University Advancement, she will be responsible for overseeing communications efforts including publicity, public relations, online systems and other marketing efforts.
She will support the work of the Division of University Advancement by managing a variety of projects including creating marketing materials and publications such as Your CSUB magazine and other major institutional publications. She will also serve as a communications resource for students, faculty and administration.
"We are delighted at the addition of Colleen to our University Advancement team," said David Melendez, Vice President for University Advancement. "She brings a level of experience as well as a collaborative and entrepreneurial way of thinking that will be valuable in our ongoing efforts to effectively raise the visibility of CSU Bakersfield both locally and nationally."
Having served most recently at Bright House Networks as Director of Marketing, Dillaway brings nearly 15 years of communications experience to CSU Bakersfield. In her most recent role, she was directly responsible for critical marketing functions including multicultural marketing, public relations and public affairs for the Bakersfield division of one of the nation's largest cable, phone and Internet providers. In that position, she was also responsible for communication strategy for new product and service launches including Home Phone, High Definition, 3D, and Road Runner Lightning.
At home in front of a camera, she hosted two exclusive local origination television shows, "On a Tank-Full", a lifestyle and travelogue show and "In the House" a show dedicated to features and benefits available to Bright House customers. Prior to coming to Bakersfield in 2003, she was the High Speed Internet Marketing Manager for Time Warner Cable's Indianapolis Division. Dillaway began her career in communications in 1999 with Cablevision Systems Corporation in New York.
"I am thrilled at the opportunity to partner with the university stakeholders, from administration and faculty to alumni and students, to share the incredible stories that are continuously happening on campus. It is with great relish that I look forward to working with the team here to further Dr. Mitchell's vision of CSUB's excellence as it relates to faculty, academic excellence and diversity, quality of the student experience and community engagement through flawless execution of stellar public affairs and communications initiatives."
A California native, Dillaway received her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in Women's Studies from UC Santa Barbara. For the past decade she, her husband Michael, and now their two sons, have been proud to call Bakersfield home.
