The Humanities/Behavioral Science 277 and 477, section 1 course (MyWritingLab) is designed to help students with critical thinking, writing, grammar, and rhetoric necessary for analytical reading and persuasive, logical, and effective writing in any lower- or upper-division course.

The Humanities/Behavioral Science 277 and 477, section 2 course (MyReadingLab) is designed to help students with critical reading by combining diagnostics, practice exercises, tests, and powerful assessment to help improve student reading skills and reading level.

HUM/BEHS 277 is open to freshmen and sophomores, while 477 is open to juniors and seniors.  Students can either sign up for the class on their own, or a faculty member may recommend students for this course. 

 

What’s Included?

Research Navigator
Research Navigator is a resource in which students can learn how to do research from picking a topic to researching to documenting.  As part of Research Navigator, students receive a subscription to Ebscohost Content Select, New York Times, Financial Times, and the Library Link.  Ebscohost Content Select allows students to search Ebsco via both a keyword and subject area.  Library link allows students to find scholarly websites in a specific topic area. Through Research Navigator, students can also learn more about MLA, APA, Chicago, and CBE documentation.

Study Skills
The study skills resource allows students to learn more about note taking, exam preparation, time management, and other similar topics.

Pearson Tutor Services/SmartThinking
This resource allows students to submit up to 10 papers (up to 15 pages long) on any subject and have personalized feedback from a person with a Master’s or PhD in that subject area.   The papers come back in approximately 24 hours. 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get credit for this course?
In MyWritingLab, students need to master (80% or higher) at least 15 topics in the MyWritingLab program.  They receive mastery either through the diagnostic or completion of the topics individually. 
In MyReadingLab, students are  responsible for taking a diagnostic test and completing 10 MyReadingLab topics.  To receive full credit, students must earn a score of 70% or higher on both the Practice and Test activities.  

When are the deadlines?
For MyWritingLab, students should have all 15 topics mastered by the last day of classes.
 For MyReadingLab, students should have all 10 topics mastered by the last day of classes.

How long do I have access to the program?
You have access to MWL/MRL, Research Navigator, Study Skills, and Pearson Tutor Services/SmartThinking for a full year after you activate their code.

What if I want to take this course again?
No problem!  You can use the same login/password from the course before; you will just add a new course.  And if it’s within the same year, you don’t even need to buy the book again!
