MBA Admission Requirements

The typical MBA candidate is expected to have a working knowledge of the fundamentals of business including management, quantitative decision-making, accounting, finance, and the current business environment. There are three admission pathways in which an applicant may apply to the program.

Admissions Pathways

All domestic applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a four-year college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association.

Traditional Track

The criteria to apply for the traditional track are as follows:

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year university
  2. Have at least 2.75 undergraduate GPA (upper division classes)
  3. Complete the GMAT or the GRE
  • The minimum GMAT score required regardless of GPA is a 500. For more information on the GMAT see www.mba.com
  • The minimum GRE scores are 151 verbal and 152 quantitative.  For more information on the GRE see www.ets.org.

Executive Track

The criteria to apply for the executive track are as follows:

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year university
  2. Have at least 2.75 undergraduate GPA (upper division classes)
  3. Executive/Management experience of at least 7 years.
  4. Individuals entering under the Executive Track are exempt taking the GMAT or GRE

National Certificate Track

The criteria to apply for the National Certificate track are as follows:

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year university
  2. Have at least 2.75 undergraduate GPA (upper division classes)
  3. Hold a current National certificate
  4. Individuals entering under the National Certification track are exempt taking the GMAT or GRE

The application process for the above three tracks is as follows:

1. Complete an application online on CSUMentor www.csumentor.com for a fee of $55.00

2. Send a complete packet of information containing the following:

  • Professional resume
  • One official transcript from each college or university attended unless you attended CSUB
  • Two letters of reference

3. Fulfill any prerequisite requirements

Program Prerequisites
All MBA applicants will be expected to demonstrate competency in the following areas identified as program prerequisites.

  1. Statistics or Quantitative Methods for Business Decision Making (equivalent to BA 301)
  2. Principles of Financial Accounting (equivalent to ACCT 220)
  3. Principles of Finance (equivalent to FIN 300)
  4. Economics Theory (equivalent to ECON 202)
  5. Organizational Behavior (equivalent to MGMT 300)

Competency can be established by any one of the following:

  1. Proof of appropriate coursework at the undergraduate level
  2. Completing online courses through Extended University. The CSUB MBA program has introduced low cost and self-paced foundation knowledge courses that will satisfy the prerequisite requirements. These will need to be completed by registration for your first quarter.

Standardized Testing Information

The MBA program requires that you take either the GMAT or the GRE as part of the admissions process.  The minimum GMAT score required regardless of GPA is a 500. -          Individuals entering under the Executive track or National certification are exempt from the testing requirements.



Traditional Track

The traditional track is for applicants who are transferring directly from an undergraduate degree or applicants with fewer than 7 years professional experience

Executive Track

The executive track is for applicants who have at least 7 years professional experience working with employees

National Certification Track

The National Certificate track is for applicants who have a Current National Certification (CPA, CPCU, SPHR, CLU, CFA)
