ONLINE MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION

The Curriculum & Instruction Program is intended for educators and those interested in education who are seeking to enhance their skills and understanding of curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.  While most candidates for the MA degree are K-12 teachers, the program can be beneficial for professional development specialists, community college instructors, coaches, and others.

Within the C&I program, there are five core courses (16 units) plus the Culminating Activity (5 units).  Additionally, students choose from a range of electives that include courses in Educational Technology.  Courses are taught completely online and do not require students to come to the Bakersfield campus.

The MA in Education is accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC), the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Educational Technology
The Masters program offers several Educational Technology courses for those who wish to explore technology integration in the classroom. Courses are oriented towards K-12 with applications that can be employed beyond the classroom. Educational Technology is an advisement option within Curriculum and Instruction for teachers and others interested in the application of technology to curriculum. The program begins with a strong background in curriculum and instructional models, both in traditional and technology supported modes. The three Educational Technology courses deal with standards, assessment, and legal aspects of school-based technology. Additional electives are offered to allow for breadth of knowledge. The program is designed for technology proficient professionals who wish to develop themselves further and move into curriculum and technology leadership roles.
