Below are some of the exams that students at CSUB may be required or may choose to take.
EPT-English Placement Test; required of all students who are not exempt in order to be placed into an English class.
ELM-Entry Level Mathematics; required of all students who are not exempt in order to be placed into a Mathematics class.
GWAR-Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement; the university-wide proficiency examination, open to all students who have earned at least 90 quarter units of undergraduate college credit and have completed English 110 with a grade of “C” or higher.
CBEST- California Basic Educational Skills Test; required for admission to the CSUB credential program. May be able to substitute teach in Bakersfield and surrounding communities once you have earned 135 quarter units and have successfully passed the CBEST.
CSET- California Subject Examination for Teachers; required for admission to CSUB credential program. To earn a Multiple Subjects Teaching credential it is necessary to verify your subject matter competence as part of your teaching qualifications. The CSET satisfies this requirement as well as the NO Child Left Behind requirements that mandate that all teachers must be highly qualified. This test is closely tied with the Liberal Studies curriculum, so please see a Liberal Studies advisor for assistance on when to take this exam.
