Electronic Databases
BasicBIOSIS is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary database that focuses on general life science research from around the world. BasicBIOSIS includes coverage of nearly 300 of the most popular life science publications.
A useful multidisciplinary database containing many journal titles in the biological sciences. Content ranges from citations to full text articles depending upon the particular journal. This database has powerful search capabilities enabling users to search the entire contents of full text articles.
The Entrez search and retrieval system is used to access information from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). For information and documentation on the Entrez system click the green Entrez link above. Below is a list of six databases and a brief description of each that are searchable using Entrez. Click on one of the database names to get more information or to search the database.

Assemblies of complete genomes.

Sequences derived from the GenBank Database.

Data sets of population sequences.

Sequences derived from the GenBank database.

Bibliographic data from MEDLINE and other literature databases.

Stanford's HighWire Press is a collection of online full text journals. The subject areas covered include life sciences, medicine, physical sciences, and social sciences. To search all journals, click the Search Journals link. Not all journal articles are available in full text. For a list of full text articles, click on the following link List of Free journals.
MEDLINE (MEDlars onLine) is one of the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) major online databases. It covers the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. MEDLINE is the online version of INDEX MEDICUS and can be searched by using PubMed or Internet Grateful Med from the National Library of Medicine. Note: For best results when searching the medical literature use NLM's controlled vocabulary (Medical Subject Headings-MeSH).

A useful tool for the selection of the proper medical subject heading(s) when searching the medical literature.
Full text articles along with search capabilities of information published by Elsevier. ScienceDirect can locate a specific Elsevier journal/article and can also be used to search for Elsevier articles on a particular topic.
Full text journals from the publisher Wiley InterScience. The Journal Search is used to search for journal articles on a particular topic. Wiley's Journal Finder, which is broken down into subject categories, can be used to locate a particular journal title.
Biological and Agriculture Index (1983-present)- An index that covers selected titles in biological and agricultural sciences. No abstracts or full text articles are available from this database.
General Science Abstracts Full Text (1984-present)- A database that includes both abstracts and full text for selected journal titles. For database information such as topics covered, fields, and journal list, click on the General Science Abstracts Full Text highlighted in green.
