Faculty Borrowers

CSUB Faculty Privileges

CSUB Faculty currently teaching classes, including those participating in the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP), or on sabbatical are eligible to check out library materials with a valid CSUB Faculty ID.

CSUB Emeriti Faculty

Faculty who retire with emeritus status as per the Provost's Office and the Office of Faculty Affairs are afforded the same rights and privileges as current CSUB Faculty as designated in the University Handbook.

CSUB Adjunct Faculty

Adjunct faculty are eligible for library privileges only during the quarters in which they are teaching.

Faculty of Other Institutions

Please review the requirements for the Community Borrower card.

Proxy Checkout

Faculty who wish to allow other members of the campus community or a spouse to check out materials on their account must submit an email or memo on campus letterhead to the Circulation Department of the library including the proxy patron's name, the term for which they have permission to check items out on the account, and the faculty member's name and/or signature. Proxy patrons must furnish the faculty member's CSUB ID and their own photo ID at the time of check out. An email or memo must be on file before materials will be released to the proxy patron. Faculty are financially responsible for materials checked out by proxy patrons on their CSUB Library accounts.

Faculty Loan Periods, Limits, Fines, and Fees

Renewals, Holds, and Recalls

Library materials, with the exception of listening and viewing media, Bestsellers, course reserves, and Interlibrary Loan items, may be renewed online or in person in May of the year they are due and are renewed until the following June. Listening and viewing media and Bestsellers may be renewed up to 2 times online or in person for the standard checkout term for that media type. See the chart below.

Faculty may renew items up to five times online, and then they must bring the books back to the Library. Upon returning the items, they can be checked out again at the Check Out Desk as long as there are no outstanding requests for the item(s). Library materials are subject to recall after 2 weeks.

For more information about renewing course reserves and Interlibrary Loan items, please refer to the links at the top of this page.

Fines and Fees

All items must be returned to the Library upon separation from the campus to avoid replacement fees for items remaining on a faculty account.

Failure to clear library obligations can result in a financial hold on your MyCSUB account preventing registration or the purchase of transcripts. The University routinely refers unpaid obligations to collections and/or the State Franchise Tax Board. If an account is sent to a collection agency or litigated, the patron may be required to pay additional costs of collection.
