THE WALTER STIERN LIBRARY MAP COLLECTION

Location: The map collection is located on Level 3 of the Walter W. Stiern Library,
9001 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93311-1022.

Types of maps: The library maintains a complete collection of 7.5 minute topographic maps of California. The collection also consists of other topographic maps, and various geologic, gravity, mineral resource and oil well maps. The collection also contains some historical maps of California and other areas, as well as a small collection of other specialty maps.

How to use maps: An electronic index to the 7.5 minute California topographic maps is available. Maps do not circulate but can be viewed in the library. Maps are stored in cabinets on the third floor and are organized by map type and map name. The drawers to the map cabinets are labeled. Map indexes are available in the first drawer of the cabinet.

The map collection is available when the library is open. If you need assistance, contact the reference desk or call the map coordinator to make an appointment.
