Am I eligible to use Distance Library Services?
Any California State University Bakersfield student who lives outside the 933 zip code of the Greater Bakersfield area is eligible to use Distance Services.
How do I register for library services as a distance student?
Go to the Distance Services Request Screen and enter your Runner Card Number and click Logon. Once in your account, scroll down to Change User Information and update your delivery location to reflect the closest delivery location

What materials can I request?
You may request books, articles, videos, and reference books.
How do I request a book?
Go to the Distance Services Request Screen and enter your Runner Card Number and click Login. Once in Illiad, scroll down to Request a Book, enter the title and author of your book, and click submit.

How do I request an article?
Go to the Distance Services Request Screen and enter your Runner Card Number and click Logon. Once in Illiad, click Request an Article, enter the required information, and click submit.
How are books sent to me?
Antelope Valley Students Books and other materials are sent to the Library Resource Center Room 405 at the Antelope Valley Campus. Books may be picked up any time the computer lab is open. Please check the website for hours . Books will be held for pick up for two weeks before being sent back to main campus.
Students located outside of the Antelope Valley Books will be shipped to your home via UPS. The library will include a pre-paid postage pouch for returning items that should be used to return items to the library. There is no cost to the patron for this service.
How are articles sent to me?
Articles are made available electronically through your Illiad account. Go to Illiad enter your Runner Card # and click Logon to ILLiad.
How long can I keep books?
Books from the Stiern Library check out for four weeks with the possibility of two renewals, in the event that there are no holds on the item, for an additional eight weeks.
Books received through Interlibrary Loan have the checkout date set by the lending institution usually this is approximately four weeks. Renewal may or may not be allowed and should be requested through your Illiad account.
There is not a limit on the number of requests that can be made through Distance Services. Students may have up to 99 books checked out at any given time.
Three Interlibrary Loan requests (books from outside the Stiern Library) will be processed per student per day.
How can I renew books?
Books from the Stiern Library may be renewed by clicking on Renew Books from the Library Webpage.
Interlibrary Loan books may be renewed through Illiad. To renew, go into your Illiad account and click View/Renew Checked Out Items.
What are the overdue charges?
Books from the Stiern Library incur charges of .15 cents per day.
The maximum fine is $10.00 per item once returned.
Lost books cost $50.00 per book.
Books obtained through Interlibrary Loan incur charges of one dollar per day.
The maximum charge is $25.00 per item once returned.
Lost books cost $100.00 per book.
How do I return my books?
Books may be returned to CSUBAV Room 405. They can be returned to the computer lab or library student assistants any time the computer lab is open. Books will be stored in a locked cabinet until they are packed and returned in shipment.
Books are not officially checked in until they return to main campus. However, the check-in date is set back to when the books were turned in at CSUBAV.
Students may return books directly to the Stiern Library in Bakersfield.
Students located outside of the Antelope Valley may request that books be delivered to their home. In these instances, the books would arrive with a pre-paid shipping bag for returning library books.
What is Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary loan is when books or articles are requested from another library for you to use. Interlibrary loan books are requested in the same manner as books from the Stiern Library. They may take from one to two weeks to arrive. They will be delivered in the same manner as other books.
Interlibrary loan articles are requested in the same manner as articles from the Stiern Library. ILL articles will be delivered to your Illiad account when available electronically. When articles are sent to CSUB in paper form, they will be sent to CSUBAV Room 405 for AV students or to the students home address.
