Research Sessions Tailored to Your Students' Needs

To help students move away from haphazard googling to researching a topic logically and systematically, arrange for a library research session for your students. These one-shot research sessions will increase students' self-confidence in doing research and reduce the number of your students who claim, that "there is nothing on this topic" or who mistake a Newsweek magazine for a scholarly journal.

The librarian conducting the research session will tailor it to your needs, which could include:

  • introducing students to library research methods
  • constructing successful search strategies
  • identifying appropriate research sources and databases
  • evaluating the differences between the popular and scholarly press
  • These research sessions are conducted as lab workshops where students receive individual hands-on experience. Students will leave the workshop with a preliminary bibliography of sources as well as the confidence to move forward in their research.

To request a research session, contact your librarian-liaison. If you are unable to connect to your librarian-liaison, please email Christy Gavin, Information Literacy Coordinator (cgavin@csub.edu).
