Research Sessions Tailored to Your Students' Needs
To help students move away from haphazard googling to researching a topic logically and systematically, arrange for a library research session for your students. These one-shot research sessions will increase students' self-confidence in doing research and reduce the number of your students who claim, that "there is nothing on this topic" or who mistake a Newsweek magazine for a scholarly journal.
The librarian conducting the research session will tailor it to your needs, which could include:
introducing students to library research methods constructing successful search strategies identifying appropriate research sources and databases evaluating the differences between the popular and scholarly press
These research sessions are conducted as lab workshops where students receive individual hands-on experience. Students will leave the workshop with a preliminary bibliography of sources as well as the confidence to move forward in their research.
To request a research session, contact your librarian-liaison. If you are unable to connect to your librarian-liaison, please email Christy Gavin, Information Literacy Coordinator (cgavin@csub.edu).
