Web Search Engines and Journal Databases
1. Students compare results from a general Internet search engine, a selective web directory, and a database of scholarly journal articles.
2. Develop a search strategy based on a research question or thesis statement. Run the search in two different search interfaces such as Google and a library periodical database. Compare the results of the two searches. How are the results different? Were the results of one better than the other? Why? Did both sets of results include advertising?
3. Create a web page focusing on the research resources related to a topic relevant to the course. Include relevant print and e-journals, online databases, reference sources, discussion lists, and organizations.
