Voice Mail System

Listed below are basic instructions for the voice mail system. Although there are many functions you may perform while in your voice mailbox, initially, all prompts are not given. Only the basic prompts applicable to location in the menu are given. You may PRESS the "#" (pound key) for help at any time. After you press #, the voice mail system replays ALL of the options available to you for the feature you are currently using. You may also consult the Voice Mail Flow Chart for additional options. If you need further assistance, do not hesitate to call the Telecommunications office at x3200.

To Access Voice Mail:

Calling from your own campus phone:

When messages are present, the Voice Mail (VM) button will flutter. To access your voice mail box, lift the handset and press the VM key. Voice mail will prompt you to enter your security code. Enter your security code. Voice mail will walk you through the various options. See the Voice Mail Flow Chart for a quick view of all options.

Calling from off-campus OR from a campus phone without voice mail

  1. Dial 654-3300 or 3300
  2. When you hear the chimes, press # (pound key) immediately. System will prompt you to enter your mail box number.
  3. Enter your mailbox number.
  4. Enter your security code. Voice mail will walk you through the options.

Calling from another campus phone with voice mail

  1. Dial 3300
  2. When the system asks for the security code, press * (star key) then # (pound key)
  3. System will prompt you to enter your mailbox number
  4. Enter your mailbox number. System will then ask for your security code.
  5. Enter your security code
  6. Voice mail will walk you through the options. See the Voice Mail Flow Chart for additional options.

Getting Started

Voice mail automatically guides new users through the process of setting up their mailboxes. If you are not guided through this process or you wish to change your security code, your name to identify your mailbox, OR to record a new greeting, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Change Your Security Code

  1. Access your subscriber mailbox as described above.
  2. Press 3 to access Phone Manager.
    (Note: System will not tell you to Press 3 to access Phone Manager.)
  3. Press 1 to access the Personal Options Menu in Phone Manager.
  4. Press 4 to change your security code.
  5. When prompted, enter a new numeric security code followed by a # sign.
    Note: Your security code can be any length from 2 digits up to 15 digits. Try to avoid using simple combinations such as your mailbox number or "1234."
  6. Listen to the prompt repeat the security code that you just entered. If your security code is correct, press 1. If it is incorrect, press 9 and re-enter a new security code.

Step 2: Record Your Name to Identify Your Mailbox

  1. After changing your security code, press 5 at the Personal Options menu to record your name. When recording your name, don't include an introduction such as "Hello, this is..."
  2. Press 2 to begin recording. Press 2 again to stop recording.
  3. After recording your name, you can:
    • Press 6 to review your name.
    • Press 4 to discard your name and start over.
    • Press * to cancel and exit to the Personal Options menu, without saving the recording.
  4. When you are satisfied with the recording, press 5 to save it.

Step 3: Record a Greeting for Your Mailbox

  1. Once you have recorded your name, press 3 at the Personal Options menu to record a personal greeting.
  2. Press 2 to begin recording. Press 2 again to stop recording.
  3. After recording your name, you can:
    • Press 6 to review your name.
    • Press 4 to discard your name and start over.
    • Press * to cancel and exit to the Personal Options menu, without saving the recording.
  4. When you are satisfied with the recording, press 5 to save it.
  5. Press * to leave Phone Manager

You can exit the system at this time.

To Cancel the Current Feature OR to Exit Voice Mail

When you press the * key, voice mail stops what it's currently doing and plays the previous voice menu options. The star key enables you to move quickly from one function to another. When you want to exit voice mail, press the * key enough times until you hear the prompt that states "Thank you for calling." This will free the line more quickly for the next person.
