Language Requirements

 

TOEFL, IELTS, and Exemption

 

CSUB requires that all applicants  demonstrate satisfactory proficiency in English. All applicants who have not attended secondary or postsecondary educational institutions where English is the principle language of instruction for at least three consecutive years of full-time must submit a report of test score.

 

We accept TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The test score must be obtained within two years prior to application to CSUB. You must have the minimum score or higher to be eligible for admission.

Transfer applicants that attended a school in the US or one of the countries below must have College English instead of TOEFL or IELTS. 

 

Applicants who have attended secondary or postsecondary educational institutions where English is the principle language of instruction for at least three consecutive years of full-time in the following countries, universities, or secondary schools are exempted from English language proficiency requirement.

 

However, CSUB reserves the right to use discretion in determining adequate levels of language proficiency to ensure success in academic programs.

 

Graduate applicants must check with their intended department or programs for specific requirements.
