HISTORY GRADUATE STUDENT WINS PRESTIGIOUS GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP

Photo of MaddoxJames Maddox, a graduate student in CSUB’s M.A. program, has been awarded a prestigious James Madison Memorial Graduate Fellowship. James Madison Fellowships support the graduate study of American history by aspiring and experienced secondary school teachers of American history, American government, and social studies. Named in honor of the fourth president of the United States and acknowledged "Father of the Constitution and Bill of Rights," a James Madison Fellowship funds up to $24,000 of each Fellow's course of study towards a master's degree. That program must include a concentration of courses on the history and principles of the United States Constitution. As part of his fellowship, James will attend a four-week summer institute at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. this summer on “The Foundations of American Constitutionalism.” Speakers include Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts. James is one of only 57 James Madison Fellows, selected in competition with applicants from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the nation's island and trust territories. A teacher of government and contemporary issues at Highland High School, he received his B.A. in Social Studies with an emphasis in History from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. Congratulations, James!
