Brett Dobson (BA ‘95) teaches government and economics at Centennial High School. He recently coached a team of four high school students to a first place finish in the Capital Markets Contest held at the Federal Reserve’s Los Angeles office. Organized by the California Council on Economic Education and the CFA Society of Los Angeles, the contest involved more than 1,200 students from 19 schools. Teams were challenged to turn $100,000 in imaginary funds into as much profit as possible using a stock market simulator Web site. Finalists then had to present their analysis of the current economic crisis and solutions to it in an essay. As part of their prize, the team will travel to New York to visit the New York and Nasdaq stock exchanges and the Federal Reserve Bank.
Aaron Mena (BA ‘02) has for some two and a half years been fulfilling his dream of becoming a firefighter. He works for the county and is stationed in Wasco. Congratulations, Aaron.
Timothy O’Hara (BA ‘02) is teaching English at South High School. He married Joy McWorter, also a CSUB graduate and a teacher at Hart Elementary, on May 29.
Oliver Rosales (MA’05): On March 20th, graduate students from six American universities gathered to share their innovative work in California History. The 4th Annual Whitsett Graduate Seminar in California History convened on the campus of Cal State Northridge. Oliver Rosales (MA’05) spoke on “The Rise and Fall of Urban Civil Rights Coalition Building in California’s Central Valley: The Case of the Kern County Coalition for Civil Unity, 1965-1975.
