New Social Science Coordinator:
I am delighted to announce that Dr. Alicia Rodriquez will become coordinator of the Single Subject Program in Social Science beginning fall quarter 2008. After serving as coordinator since 1988, I will place the many Social Science responsibilities, including advising, evaluating coursework for subject matter competency, and attending many meetings, in the capable hands of Dr. Rodriquez. Meanwhile, I will succeed Dr. Vivian as department chair and assume responsibility for advising, evaluating coursework, and attending MANY meetings. Plus ça change, plus c’est la meme chose.

Update on Social Science Program:
The proposed new program in Social Science remains under review by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Students currently enrolled in the old program, and those taking courses that meet requirements of that program, will be allowed to complete the old program. The CCTC has extended the date for phasing out old subject matter programs to July 1, 2009.

InSt 390:
CSUB will offer only one section of InSt 390: The Educator as Social Scientist during the 2008-2009 academic year. It will be offered in the spring quarter 2009.
