Hepatitis B Immunization
Requirement
18 years of age or
younger
If you are 18 years of age or younger, you are required to present proof of
immunization against hepatitis B. If you have not already taken the three shot immunization
series, you will be required to do so.
Students are encouraged to begin the
series of shots as soon as possible because the series takes a total of 6 months
to complete. Students will be required
to have at least started the series of shots before they will be allowed to
register for their second quarter.
The first shot should be taken as soon as
possible. The second shot is taken
one month after the first shot and the third and final shot is taken six months
after the first shot.
If you have previously received this
vaccine series for hepatitis B, bring your shot record or other proof of
immunization to the Health Services to verify compliance.
No restrictions will be placed on
students who are proceeding through the series of shots.
The entire series does not have to be completed before your first quarter.
However, students need to be progressing
in the series of shots to register for the second or third quarter. The final shot
must be completed no later then the beginning of the second year.
Cost of the vaccine:
If you are 18 or younger when you receive the injection, pediatric vaccine
from the Vaccines for Children will be used. The cost is $3 per injection.
If you turn 19 you will be switched to adult vaccine and the charge will be $30.
Exemptions can be obtained based on
medical considerations and religious or personal beliefs. Please contact Health
Services if you believe you would qualify for an exemption.
