Is My Project Human Subjects Research?

The CSUB IRB only reviews projects that meet the IRB definition of "human research." If you believe that your project may not be human subjects research, it is wise to get the judgment of the IRB by submitting your project to the IRB using the Is My Project Human Subjects Research?  form. Some CSUB graduate programs require their students to file evidence from the IRB establishing that their project either: [a] was reviewed and authorized by the IRB or [b] did not need IRB review.

Please follow the instructions on the form. Attach any additional sheets needed for explanation. Print the materials, obtain the requested signatures, and file your materials with the Office of Grants, Research, and Sponsored Programs [DDH D-108, (661) 654-2231]. This form may be submitted at any time and feedback is usually provided within one week. It is possible that the reviewers will request additional materials or information.

If your proposed activity DOES meet the definition of human research, then working through the form will tell you what protocol you need to submit to the IRB.
