Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology


Welcome to the Master of Science in Counseling Psychology (CPSY). We offer a challenging program that includes two quarters of experience in the state-of-the-art CSUB University Counselor Training Clinic and field traineeships, all of which provide counseling services to the Bakersfield community.

Characteristics of the Program

  • Meets the Board of Behavioral Sciences Business and Professions Code Section 4980 academic requirements for California licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT).
  • Includes coursework in individual, family, group, and child/ adolescent counseling, which both theory techniques.
  • Involves 90 quarter units of coursework.
  • Class times have been tailored for working professionals since they mainly meet between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on weekday during the academic year.
  • Full-time students can complete the program in two years if they are available for both classes and a 20-hour –per week traineeship during regular business hours during the second year.
  • Three and four-year coursework sequences are available for parttime students.

Deadlines


May 1st and thereafter on a space-as-available basis.

Admission Requirements

  • A completed university application form through CSUMentor
  • A completed separate program application packet.
  • A 3.2 GPA over the most recent 60 semester or 90 quarter units.
  • Completion of all prerequisite courses with a grade of at least a “B-“. Courses are: A. introductory statistics, B. Abnormal psychology, C. Child psychology, developmental psychology, or human development.
