Masters of Science in Counseling


The Master of Science in Counseling offered by the Education Counseling program is designated to provide graduate preparation for counselors in the areas of School Counseling (K-12) or Student Affairs (College/University). The major goal of the Educational Counseling program is to prepare professional counselors who have the knowledge and skills to practice in a wide variety of counseling settings.

Characteristics of the Program

  • Two concentrations: School Counseling and College Student Affairs
  • Individual attention from experienced faculty and counseling professionals.
  • Extensive field-based experience is woven throughout the curriculum.
  • Full-time students can finish the program in as little as two years.

When to Apply


October 15 for the Winter Quarter
February 15 for the Spring Quarter
April 15 for the Fall Quarter

Admission Requirements

  • A completed university application form through CSUMentor
  • Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
  • Obtain passing scores on the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), for School Counseling program.
  • Successfully complete EDRS 680, Educational Statistics within 5 years of application to the program with a grade ā€œCā€ or higher.
  • Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR)
