Masters of Arts in Education/Education Administration


The specialization in educational administration is available for postbaccalaureate students who have an interest in administering programs in elementary or secondary public schools. Work toward the M.A. includes requirements for the Preliminary Credential. The Preliminary Administrative Services Credential is the first of two credentials that must be obtained to be permanently credentialed to be an educational administrator in California’s elementary or secondary public schools.

Characteristics of the Program

  • Individual advising.
  • Career support.
  • Promotion of a faculty/student learning community.
  • Working to improve educational practice in the public schools.
  • Individuals who have the Preliminary Credential may hold any administrative job in California for which they are otherwise qualified.
  • The Preliminary Administrative Services Credential authorizes service as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Principal, Supervisor, Coordinator, or in any equivalent or intermediate level Administrative position.

When to Apply


Fall admission: March 15

Winter admission: September 15

Spring admission: January 15

Admission Requirements

  • Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited fouryear college or university.
  • GPA Verified (if GPA is below 3.0 student must fulfill 9 quarter units with B or better before being admitted).
  • A completed university application form via csumentor (www.csumentor.edu)
  • Approved Program Plan.
  • Teaching Experience Verified (3 years total to finish for Credential).
  • Letters of recommendation.
