About ΔΦ
The Delta Phi Chapter was installed on the CSUB campus in April of 1983. We were the first sorority originated on the campus and have maintained an esteemed reputation. Our individuality comes from the diversity of our sisters and continuous involvement within ΓΦΒ and at our University. Our sisters excel in many areas including scholarship, leadership, creativity, athletics, and community service, and come from various backgrounds.
Since ΓΦΒ was founded on the ideal of upholding the highest level of womanhood, our Chapter continuously strives to promote growth and mastery in some of the areas listed above. Our Chapter assists in the individual growth of sisters by not only giving opportunities for its members to utilize and hone their skills and talents to contribute to the existence of the sisterhood, but to also enable members to acquire additional skills that will be valuable to both themselves and the sorority in the future.
In order to facilitate the growth of our sisters as individuals and the bond of our sisterhood as a whole, we continuously hold fun and enriching events and activities. Some of the key components of our Chapter include:
Sisterhoods: Sisterhoods are activities performed to help our Chapter bond as sisters and gain a new found respect for one another. Often times, these sisterhoods might focus on a particular element such as communication or leadership. Sometimes our sisterhoods are very lighthearted and fun, and other times they can be slightly more serious and inspirational. Regardless of the atmosphere of a particular sisterhood, we always find ourselves becoming closer to each other and gaining a better understanding of each other.
Recruitments: Recruitments are vital to our Chapter’s existence. As elaborated in greater depth on the recruitment page, this is when we seek to bring in new individuals with exemplary qualities to share in the bond of our sisterhood. Underneath face value, recruitment events impact our members by teaching them communication skills, social etiquette, leadership strengths, and acceptance of all individuals.
Scholarship: Academics are a huge component to our Chapter. As one of our four core values, learning is the essence of our Chapter’s existence. Our perspective is that anyone who joins our sorority has a primary goal of obtaining a higher education, hence enrolling at the University in the first place. With this mind, our member’s education is of the utmost importance, and we have designed a scholarship program to support our sisters in achieving high academics.
Philanthropies: Philanthropies are acts of goodwill and effort to help support human welfare. ΓΦΒ is a strong believer in giving back to people and to the community. Our Sorority’s international philanthropy is Campfire USA and our Chapter’s local philanthropy is Relay for Life (sponsored by the American Cancer Society). While we do various philanthropies for numerous organizations throughout the year, Campfire USA and Relay for Life are our two main philanthropies to which we dedicate a lot of our time and effort. To help support these organizations, our Chapter has various fundraisers to raise money such as carwashes, candy sales, our Gala Dance, and restaurant-sponsored events. For more information and details regarding these philanthropies, please see our philanthropy page. If you would like to make a donation toward one of our philanthropies, please contact our chapter president!
PACEs: PACE stands for Personal And Chapter Enrichment. These activities are geared toward promoting knowledge or a skill that not only our individual sisters can utilize but will also benefit the Chapter as a whole. A few examples of these are types of activities are when we had sister’s Father come in and teach us how to change a tire, and when a sister’s Mother, who was a nurse, spoke to the Chapter about women’s health.
Socials: Socials are fun events planned with another organization on campus enabling our Chapter to learn a more about that particular organization’s members and its purpose. This is a fun and great way of teaching our sisters more social etiquette and encouraging them to be outgoing and personable.
Positions: Our Chapter is structured in a hierarchy. We have a President who oversees the functionality of the whole Chapter, and underneath her is the Chapter’s Vice Presidents, each specializing in an important component of the Chapter. The President and Vice Presidents comprise the Executive Board Council that helps to facilitate tasks and decisions for the betterment of the Chapter. Each Vice President has officers underneath her making up one Department. For descriptions and current holders of positions, please see our sisters page.
The main positions are elected positions, and there are a few positions that are appointed by the Executive Board. Each winter quarter, we hold elections to transition new sisters into the new offices.
Being able to have the opportunity to hold a position in the sorority is a great achievement and honor, and benefits the growth of our women. These positions allow our sisters to take initiative to be a leader, to plan events, to be creative, and to earn respect. Holding a position takes dedication and organization, which is why our officers can proudly list the positions they have held on their professional resumes.
