Safety and Risk Management Certificate
About the Program
The Safety & Risk Certificate Program is designed to assist California employers and employees who are required to comply with state workplace safety requirements. In one two-month period, almost 88% of the CAL/OSHA violations were written because of inadequate safety programs. A safe workplace is the right of every worker and is also cost-effective for the employer.
The program consists of two courses. Both courses provide theory, practical applications, and hands-on assistance to those individuals with workplace safety responsibilities. Current state laws require a safety coordinator for every California employer.
Admission to the Program
Admission is only permitted in Fall quarter. Application deadline is August 1.
To be admitted you must complete an application form and pay the application fee of $35. Applications can be submitted by mail or in person to the Extended University Office during regular business hours. We do not accept applications by fax or e-mail.
Applications can be downloaded here on our web site or you can contact the Extended University Office and one can be mailed to you or sent by e-mail. You can also visit our office in person.
To receive a certificate of completion for this program you must receive grade of credit in both courses, which is a 70% or higher in each course. The program only takes two quarters to complete. You must pass the Introduction course in the Fall in order to enroll and complete the Advanced Course in Winter.
Your seat in class is not reserved until you have paid BOTH the application fee and course fee for the Introduction course.
For 2014, we will be implementing a lottery system for registration spots. Each applicant will be assigned a number based on when they applied and we will draw numbers until we reach our registration limit. You will then be notified if your number was drawn and receive a designated registration date and time. As long as you, or a designated representative submit a completed registration form with payment during your designated time, you will have a registered spot in class. If you fail to appear to register at your designated time, you will forfeit your spot and another applicant will be given your number. You will be notified by August 20, 2014 if you received a registration date and time.
