President's Monthly Campus Update

In this issue of the Update, I wish to call your attention to a new campus tradition - Celebrate CSUB. During this annual open house, we open our doors to the Bakersfield and greater Kern County communities and invite them to explore the wealth of programs and services we have to offer. The day is a celebration of our distinguished faculty, our accomplished students, and our committed staff. It is a celebration of campus life.

Among the many events we will showcase at Celebrate CSUB are faculty and student research, academic workshops, co-curricular activities, and entertainment venues such as the Student Union Spring Carnival and CSUB Idol. (Bring a blanket, lawn chair, and umbrella, and join us on the amphitheatre lawn.) Newly admitted students and their parents will be on campus, as will middle and high school students exploring college life. Even the youngest members of our community will join us as the Children's Center celebrates 30 years of providing excellent child care services.

Our faculty, staff, and students have worked together to plan a day filled with a variety of offerings. I am pleased to provide a complete program guide to Celebrate CSUB as this month's issue of the Update. You may find additional information on our website at:

I look forward to seeing you at Celebrate CSUB.

Celebrate CSUB Program Guide

Welcome to Celebrate CSUB!

Great things are happening at CSUB and we would like to tell you about them. Better yet, we would like to show you. Our faculty, staff, students, and I invite you to explore, discover, and rediscover CSUB in a day filled with activities for all audiences.

At our opening event, I will be leading the campus in our Celebrate CSUB rally and fight song challenge. (To see the lyrics and hear the fight song, visit our website at and click on 'Runners' Fight Song.) We welcome CSUB alumni, future students, and our community partners to put on your blue and gold, show your spirit, and support CSUB by joining us in our opening rally. Thereafter, please enjoy the variety of offerings, from academic to services to entertainment that our schools and departments have prepared. Come and spend the day with us.
