President's Monthly Campus Update
- December 6, 2006
- Vol. 1, No. 12
Our Winter 2006 commencement ceremonies which were held on December 1 represented the culmination of years of academic study and discipline for our graduates. Six hundred sixty four (664) degrees were earned in our four schools, and 439 credentials were earned in Education. The breakdown for degrees is:
Our outstanding faculty served not only as their instructors and research supervisors, they served also as role models and mentors as our students planned the next steps in their careers. Chancellor Sandra Serrano of the Kern Community College District gave an inspiring message to the graduates during both ceremonies.
We congratulate all of our graduates and their families, and we thank the many faculty, staff, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the commencement ceremonies.
Our annual Holiday Reception is an opportunity for all faculty and staff to come together to celebrate the holiday season. In order that all staff may attend the campus holiday reception, Cabinet officers are implementing several strategies including having calls forwarded to a selected number of offices and having offices staffed by MPP managers. Please consult with your supervisor regarding the specific plan for your department. I look forward to seeing everyone in the Runner Café on Thursday, December 7, 2006 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Please RSVP ASAP to Lisa Lopez in the Office of the President at 654-2241 so that name tags can be prepared for you and to facilitate an accurate guest count for Sodexho. We invite you to support the Toys for Tots toy drive by bringing a toy for a needy child.
University Council & the President's Campus Forum
The next University Council meeting will be January 19, 2007, from 2-3 p.m. in the Albertson Room. The first President's Campus Forum will be scheduled for sometime in late January or February 2007. The topic will be "Access to Excellence," a campus-wide dialogue on the new CSU systemwide strategic plan.
First Lady Barbara Mitchell and I extend our holiday greetings to you and your family and our best wishes for a peaceful, prosperous and happy New Year
