California Writer Series reading scheduled at CSUBJanuary 15, 2009

Juliana Spahr, an American poet and co-editor of the art magazine Chain, will give a poetry reading as part of the California Writers Series at California State University, Bakersfield on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., in the Dezember Room of the Walter Stiern Library.
Spahr is a graduate of Bard College where she earned a bachelor's degree in languages. She later earned her doctorate in English from the University of Buffalo. She currently teaches at Mills College in Oakland, CA.
Spahr has published more than a half-dozen books of poetry including "Thisconnectionofeveryonewithlungs" (2005), "The Transformation" (2007) and other works for which she has received considerable attention from critics. Along with being an accomplished poet, Spahr has also edited and authored collections of essays, works of criticism and literary anthologies.
The event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a book sale made possible by Russo's Books.
The California Writers Series began in 2006 and is sponsored by CSUB's Sigma Tau Delta, the English honors society and Associated Students, Inc. Previous readers have included Kay Ryan, Wanda Coleman, Joe Wenderoth, Susana Chavez-Silverman, Pam Houston, Mgugi wa Thiong´o and Brian Turner.
