California State University, Bakersfield's art department faculty, staff and alumni will display their talent during the Pro-tégé art exhibit at the Todd Madigan Gallery starting Jan. 22. The opening includes a reception from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. with refreshments and an opportunity to talk with the artists about their work. The exhibit runs through March 7.
"This exhibit gives us a chance to showcase the work of CSUB's talented artists and let the community know what we have to offer," said Deanna Heikkinen, interim gallery director. "It is a good way to attract art students and let them know that our faculty is comprised of working artists who are still producing amazing art."
Each participating faculty artist selected CSUB alumni to participate in the exhibit along with them. Artists include; current faculty members Mike Heivly, Joyce Kohl, Sarah Vanderlip, Drew Dominick, and George Ketterl; art department staff Dan Slayton and David Laughing Horse Robinson; and alumni Greg Colson, Jeff Colson, Jill Thayer, Michael Miller, Cliff Johansen, James Rienke, Amanda Camerer and previous visiting artist Joe Goode.
"This will be an extremely diverse show," said Heikkinen. "We will have everything from nature photography with poetry to modern and contemporary work. There will be something everyone can identify with and enjoy in this exhibit."
Admission is free, however normal parking fees still apply. Exhibit hours are Wednesday through Saturday 12 – 6 p.m. For more information, contact Heikkinen (661) 654-2487.
