Bakersfield opera and musical buffs will enjoy "An Evening of Opera and Musical Theatre" presented by California State University, Bakersfield Opera Theater on Friday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Doré Theater.
CSUB music professor Peggy Sears, who is the musical and stage director for the evening, is enthusiastic about the program. "We have a strong group of students in our program, some exciting voices," she said.
The audience will be treated to scenes from Seymour Barab's "Little Red Riding Hood"; "Selections from the Magic Flute" and "Trio from the Impresario" by Mozart; five selections from "Wicked" by Stephen Schwartz with guest direction by Mark Lamanna, a music specialist from Los Angeles; and George Bizet's "Carmen."
Performers will include Catherine Register, Bryce Loo, Gretchen Anderson, Sasanna Effsaef, Cora Frantz, Amanda Locke, Sara Kean, Sarah Feliz, Katie Moyes, Eric Oster, Jessica Trevino and Almalinda Duran.
CSUB music professor Yulia Kozlova will provide piano accompaniment, Roger Upton will provide costumes, and CSUB theater professor Ray Finnel will do lighting and set design.
Admission is $10 general admission, $5 students and seniors. Tickets are available in advance by calling Sears at (661) 654-2168, or at the box office the evening of the performance.
