A fundraising dinner for the Bakersfield and Bucheon, Korea sister city partnership is slated for Saturday, June 23, at California State University, Bakersfield's Student Union multipurpose room from 5 to 8 p.m. The evening will include entertainment and a silent auction.
Partial proceeds from the dinner will help fund the upcoming Bucheon City Cultural Delegation visit to Bakersfield in October.
Last year the sister city agreement between Bakersfield and Bucheon was established, and now the Bakersfield Sister City Project Corp. wishes to formally introduce its newest "sister" to the community. The mission of the organization is to promote peace by providing opportunities for Bakersfield residents to experience different cultures through education, social and economic interactions.
Bakersfield Sister City Project Corp. is an affiliate of Sister Cities International, an organization founded in 1956, as one of the organizations promoted by President Dwight Eisenhower.
The local organization has had other recent partnerships. In July 2005, Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall and Armando Rivera, mayor of Santiago de Queretaro, Mexico, signed a sister city affiliation agreement.
Event sponsorships for Saturday's dinner range from silver level starting at $500, gold level at $1,000 and platinum level at $1,500. Tickets for the June 23 dinner are $35 and must be purchased by Tuesday, June 19.
