Award-winning author Pam Houston will visit California State University, Bakersfield for a reading and book signing as part of the California Writers Series on Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Dezember Reading Room of the Walter W. Stiern Library.
Houston is the author of two award-winning short story collections, "Cowboys Are My Weakness," for which she won the Western States Book Award, and "Waltzing the Cat," which garnered her the Willa Award for Contemporary Fiction. She is also the director of creative writing at the University of California, Davis.
The California Writers Series' primary goal is to inspire, encourage and influence the student body and CSUB campus community by bringing contemporary writers throughout California to share their work. "It can be an amazing experience for students to meet a writer who shares something of our diverse and vibrant contemporary California culture," said Marit MacArthur, CSUB English professor and director of the California Writers Series.
Last year's authors included Kay Ryan, who was raised in the San Joaquin Valley; and fiction writer and playwright Greg Chandler, who lives in Los Angeles.
The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by CSUB English Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta, in association with Walter W. Stiern Library, the CSUB English department, and Russo's Books.
