California State University, Bakersfield's Extended University is looking for host families to help house international students who will be coming to CSUB this summer for intense English-language study and cultural courses.
The Intensive English Language Center (IELC) will provide English language instruction to the groups for two-to-four-week blocks. Students in the short-term programs benefit from becoming part of an American family during their stay.
This summer four groups from different parts of the world are expected:
- A group of students and business people, ages 18 to 60, from Mali, Africa, July 21-Aug. 10.
- A group of Japanese students, ages 18 to 60, Aug. 11-Sept. 8.
- A group of students, ages 18 to 22, from former Soviet Union countries, Aug. 16–Sept. 7.
- A group of young people, ages 16 and 17, from China, tentative dates July 29- Aug. 11.
Those interested in hosting one of these international visitors into their home would need to provide a room, transportation to campus and food. Reimbursement for expenses is $20 per day.
Those who would like more information about becoming a host family should contact Cathy Bloxham, IELC home-stay coordinator, at cbloxham@csub.edu or please call the IELC office at 654-2014 and ask for Cathy.
