The California State University, Bakersfield Indigenous Native American Club will host the "Red Bear Circle Native Gathering" in Runner Park on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Indigenous Native American Club seeks to enroll more Native American students in college, support these students through graduation, and raise an awareness of Indigenous culture. The club would also like to establish a Native American culture center on campus.
The gathering will consist of informal activities throughout the day, including traditional dancing and singing as well as Native American cuisine and cultural demonstrations. There will also be a booth dedicated to providing financial aid information for prospective students.
This event will welcome people from many tribes in the Bakersfield area.
The CSUB Indigenous Native American Club started in February and has about 50 members from the community.
Four hundred people are expected to attend the event. Admission is free. Parking will be free in Lots A, K and L. Participants are encouraged to bring their own canopy and chairs. Refreshments will be served.
