"I am very pleased to announce Kathy's appointment," said CSUB President Horace Mitchell. "She brings a wealth of experience to this position and is an alumna as well as a former student body president. I'm delighted that she will be returning to the university and joining our team here at CSUB."
Miller echoed Mitchell's enthusiasm, "In some ways this is like coming home for me," she said. "CSUB has been part of my life since I was a child and it's been wonderful to watch the campus grow. Now I have the opportunity to help further that development and share the success, challenges and progress of CSUB with our community. I can't wait to get started."
Prior to her current employment, Miller served as senior associate for Communication Resources for Schools in Rocklin from 1998 until 2003. As senior associate she conducted comprehensive communication needs assessments for school districts and county offices of education throughout California. Miller was the public information coordinator for the Kern High School District from 1993 until 1997. While at the KHSD, Miller developed and coordinated the district's public information and communications programs and acted as a liaison between the superintendent, school district, school site administrators and the news media.
She received her master's degree in public relations from Michigan State University and her bachelor's degree in communications from CSUB.
Miller will act as the chief publicist and public information officer for the campus. She will be responsible for managing university media relations and for creating and placing CSUB's strategic messages in various media channels. Additionally, Miller will develop and execute a communications plan to shape and manage the university's image. Her office is also responsible for a range of internal and external communications including news releases, announcements and Inside CSUB, the university magazine. She will report to the vice president for University Advancement.
