Thirteen California State University, Bakersfield art students are exhibiting their work at the 2006 Graduating Artists Spring Exhibition in CSUB's Todd Madigan Gallery through June 10. The exhibit opened with a reception for the artists on Wednesday.
The exhibit showcases a variety of media including photography, drawing, sculpture and painting. One student has created a large sculptural installation and a DVD accompanying a large painting assemblage. The exhibiting seniors are Mario Andrighetto, J. Gail Avery, Diana Doane, Keri Francisco, Jaye Lyn Martin, Estella Melenudo, Tabia Owens, Sophie Rasmussen, Clare Reed, Victoria Sexton, Jaime Silva, Christine Tuthill and Shyanne Weston.
"The works are stunningly beautiful and colorful, both in abstract and representational form," said art professor Michael Johnson. "But each work is stamped with the individual markings of their makers."
"We believe that this is one of the strongest graduating student exhibitions in some time," Johnson added.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Special gallery hours will be held on Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to noon and will be closed this Saturday for Memorial Day holiday weekend.
