The best of Bakersfield's trivia masters will be tested Thursday, May 25, at California State University Bakersfield in the first Brains of Bakersfield contest. Organizers expect to hold the event annually.
The intellectual/trivia contest is based on the popular British game of Quiz Night, played in pubs and on television. The contest features teams of up to 10 people, who are challenged to answer tough questions ranging from sports trivia to scientific fact. The questions are timed and each team records their answers with a scorecard projected on a screen in CSUB’s Icardo Center.
The event at the Icardo Center begins with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. followed by the start of the contest at 7 p.m. Halftime will feature a catered dinner by Bakersfield restaurant Luigi's.
All proceeds from the contest will go toward CSUB soccer scholarships and the Diabetic Youth Foundation, which operates Bearskin Meadow Camp, a camp for children with type 1 diabetes.
Bakersfield trivia masters are encouraged to round up a team of 10 knowledgeable friends and sign up. The fee to enter a team is $250. The winning team will be presented with Brainy Bunch Trophies once the scores are tabulated at the end of the contest.
