The University currently uses two telephone prefixes, 664 and 665. Both of these prefixes are ‘full’, which means additional phone numbers can not be established using either of these prefixes.
In order to avoid the confusion of using yet a third prefix for additional campus phone numbers, a new campus prefix has been established that will be used for all phone numbers on the main campus. This new prefix will be 654. This conversion only affects a person’s prefix and not their area code or the last four digits of their phone number.
The new campus prefix (654) is currently in use and all campus phone numbers can be reached with the current prefix or the new 654 prefix. On January 1, 2006 the 664 & 665 prefix will be discontinued and only the 654 prefix will become permanent.
The Antelope Valley Campus 952 prefix remains unchanged, however the new 654 prefix will allow people in the Bakersfield area to place a local call from Bakersfield to the AV site by using the new 654 prefix. For example; to call Antelope Valley’s main number from Bakersfield you can dial 654-5000.
