CSUB SCHOLARSHIP FUND HOSTS GOLF CLASSIC
The Bright House Networks’ Golf Classic is set for April 18 at Seven Oaks Country Club. The event is a benefit to raise funds for the Hispanic Excellence Scholarship Fund (HESF), which provides scholarships for academically excellent and financially needy students at California State University, Bakersfield. Since its inception in 1984, HESF has raised more than $1.5 million, and has provided 1,100 scholarships to outstanding students. The scholarship awards range from $1,500 to $2,500.
Registration for the Golf Classic begins at 9 a.m., followed by a golf clinic at 10 a.m., taught by Bruce Burroughs, Seven Oaks Country Club golf pro. The classic will feature 36 four-member teams teeing off at 11 a.m.
Event chairman Thomas R. Martinez said the Golf Classic has become a real tradition with many past sponsors and players, who look forward to participating. “Once people get in and attend, their hooked,” he said.
"Moreover, this popular event is strongly supported by the community. Through a dollar-for-dollar agreement with the national Hispanic Scholarship Fund, all money raised locally is doubled. So in addition to having a great time, participants and sponsors know they are helping hundreds of local students obtain a college education.”
A number of great prizes are being offered to the top four teams, as well as for closest to the pin and longest drive. There is also the opportunity to win a 2005 Toyota Camry, courtesy of Bill Wright Toyota, for a hole-in-one on the Lakes sixth hole, as well as a 2005 Porsche, courtesy of Family Motors, for a hole-in-one on the Island fifth hole.
Team entry fee, including the buffet reception, is $600. Individual entry fee is $150. Tee sponsorship is $100. Guest tickets, which include full-day gallery access and the 4 p.m. buffet reception, are $25.
Golf Classic sponsors are Bright House Networks, Advance Beverage Co., The Robert Raskind Charitable Foundation, Rodriguez and Associates, and Univision/TeleFutura/KABE.
