CSUB English professor Michael Flachmann was one of nine individuals to receive the Distinguished Service Award at the 2005 Alpha Chi Honor Society national convention in St. Louis, April 9. Alpha Chi, CSUB’s only all-campus honor society, began giving the award in 2001 to honor individuals whose service to the society has been the most influential.
“I’m very honored to receive recognition for my work with this organization,” Flachmann said. “I’m proud to work with some of the best and brightest at CSUB.” Flachmann is the founding sponsor of the California Iota chapter at CSUB and currently serves on the Alpha Chi National Council as an at large member.
Most of the recipients are current or recent faculty sponsors recommended by their respective regional councils. The National Council of Alpha Chi also recognizes some individuals who have been retired a longer time from active participation in Alpha Chi and other friends of the society whose contributions deserve the designation “distinguished.”
Alpha Chi students represents the top 10 percent of junior and senior college students from member institutions. At CSUB, junior students must have a 3.8 grade point average and seniors, a 3.7 GPA to be invited to join.
