New signage set to be unveiled Friday, June 17, will help
travelers on Interstate 5 find California State University,
Bakersfield. Signs will be placed on I-5 at the Stockdale
Highway interchange at both the north and south off-ramps
guiding drivers to CSUB.
Additional signage will be posted after drivers exit,
alerting them to the 13 miles left in their commute to CSUB.
The request for the new signs was made by CSUB President
Horace Mitchell’s office. Mitchell noticed there were no
signs on I-5 indicating how to get to CSUB when he came to
interview for his current position.
“As we broaden our outreach to out-of-area students, we need
increased visibility for the university,” Mitchell said.
“The signs will serve as quasi-billboards for CSUB for
travelers on I-5. Hundreds of thousands of people travel on
I-5 between Los Angeles and the Bay area on an annual basis.
The signs are likely to lead to many of them taking the exit
and visiting the campus.”
A special dedication luncheon will be held for invited
guests on Friday, June 17, at noon in the president’s
conference room. The luncheon will feature mock-ups of the
new signage. |
