A California State University, Bakersfield graduate student will be the guest speaker at the Kern County Archaeological Society’s meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Beale Memorial Library, 701 Truxtun Ave.
Deanna Heikkinen, a CSUB anthropology graduate student, will discuss her work on the Tell El-Hibeh, Egypt, project. Heikkinen, along with Robert Yohe, CSUB anthropology professor, and Jill Gardner, staff archaeologist for CSUB’s Center for Archaeological Research, unearthed a mass grave of
13 mummies during the 2004-05 field season in El-Hibeh. This presentation will focus on the textiles associated with late Graeco-Roman and Christian burials from this site.
The Kern County Archaeological Society will host a dinner prior to the meeting at Uricchio’s Trattoria, 1400 17th St., at 5:30 p.m.
