Bakersfield opera buffs will enjoy “An Evening of Opera Scenes” presented by California State University, Bakersfield Singers Opera Theater on Friday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Doré Theater.

The audience will be treated to scenes from Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata”; “ The Coronation of Poppea,” by Claudio Monteverdi; Benjamin Britten’s comic opera “Albert Herring”; the 1956 Broadway musical “The Most Happy Fella,” by Frank Loesser; Rogers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma”; “La Revoltosa,” by Ruperto Chapí; “Norma,” by Vincenzo Bellini; and Georges Bizet's “Carmen.”

Performers will include Monica Hernandez, Jason Sliger, Roberto Becerra, Katie Newlen, Mary Bellah, Adam Calvillo, Kenny and Jill Burdick, Sarah Feliz, Nicola Hennen, Sara Kean, Leslie Roberts and Michelle Roberts.

CSUB music professor Charles Badami will provide piano accompaniment, Roger Upton will provide costumes, and CSUB theater professor Ray Finnel will do lighting and set design.
