A conference titled "Reality Check" exploring the basics of college life, male responsibilities and success for young African-American men is scheduled Friday (Feb. 7) at 2 p.m. at California State University, Bakersfield.

The conference, hosted by Black Men On Campus (BMOC), an organization to promote the educational and career goals of young African-American men, will be held in the CSUB Business Development Center, room 153.

Terrence A. Mack, founder and president of Innovative Leadership Concepts, a leadership and organizational development group headquartered in Glendale, will be the keynote speaker.

The conference will focus on leadership concepts and motivating young African-American males to attend college, said Loren Anthony, BMOC president and a senior liberal studies major.

"Right now we will have about 95 boys from local high schools attending the conference," Anthony said. "The boys are all members of a program called Black Excellence Scholarship and Teaching (Project BEST)." Anthony said the conference is free and those interested are invited.
