"An Evening of Opera Scenes" comes to CSUB Dore Theatre
Bakersfield opera buffs will be treated to "An Evening of Opera Scenes" presented by the California State University, Bakersfield Performing Arts Department on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dore Theater.
CSUB's Opera Singers, under the direction of music professor Peggy Sears, will present a potpourri of popular opera scenes. Scenes to be performed are:
From "The Marriage of Figaro," by Mozart, Act I, Scene I, J.C. Mejia as Figaro, and Sarah Feliz as Susannah. From "Carmen," by Bizet, Card Trio and Gypsy Song; Delinda Unruh as Carmen, Sara Thomas as Mercedes, Elizabeth Heinrichs as Frasquita. From "La Cenerentola" (Cinderella), by Rossini, Scena e Duetto; Kenny Burdick as Don Ramiro, Jill Burdick as La Cenerentola. From "Luisa Fernanda," by Torroba, Duet; Mejia as Vidal, Mary Bellah as Luisa Fernanda. From "The Magic Flute," by Mozart, Duet, Act II Finale; Kozmik Moore as Papageno, Roxi Goins as Papagena. From "Trouble in Tahiti," by Leonard Bernstein; Nicola Hennen as Dinah, a trio of Erin Lopez, Monica Hernandez, Roberto Becerra Finale from "Showboat," by Jerome Kern, Can't help lovin' that man; Feliz as Julie, Jill Burdick as Queenie, Ken Burdick as Joe.
Sears said the scenes will be sung in English, except for the Torroba piece which will be sung in Spanish with English supertitles. Many of the performers also were cast members of CSUB’s recent highly acclaimed production of “The Gypsy Baron.”
CSUB music professor Charles Badami is the accompanist.
